For mature audiences. Nicole Corrales reads an excerpt from Tony R. Rodriguez's novel "Under These Stars," a book of literary fiction with undertones of metaphysics. Excerpt depicts a scene from chapter eleven showcasing the hotspot Harvelle's and the noir soul, a femme fatale cabaret band known as The Toledo Show.
 
Poet Al Young visits Google's Mountain View, CA headquarters to discuss his book "Something About the Blues." This event took place on December 4, 2008, as part of the Authors@Google series. Like Harlem renaissance poet Langston Hughes, who first popularized the blues as a poetic form, Al Young has written about the blues, played the blues and drawn inspiration from the blues.

In the 1970s I wrote a series of 22 agitational poems for social change, brief public poems that I stenciled on walls with spray paint, printed as silk-screened broadside posters plastered on walls with wheat paste, and a billboard erected on an approach to the Bay Bridge.
The Berkeley City College English Department, with PEN Oakland, presented a poetry reading, on February 10, 2015, from the ground-breaking anthology, Fightin' Words: 25 Years of Provocative Poetry and Prose from "The Blue-Collar" PEN. Readers included award-winning authors Lucille Lang Day, Sharon Doubiago, Jack & Adelle Foley, Rafael Jesús González, Kirk Lumpkin, Mary Mackey, devorah major,Tony Rodríguez, Floyd Salas, & Richard Silberg.
